Dr. Dennis Desai graduated from medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1985. After a rotating internship and a year in general practice, he went back to the University of Ottawa to complete a general surgery residency in 1992. An interest in travel then led to surgical registrar appointments in England and in New Zealand. Upon his return to Canada, Dr. Desai travelled and worked in a number of cities across the country, including Yellowknife, Grande Prairie, and Orillia. In July 2008, he moved to Ottawa to join the CMPA. Dr. Desai is passionate about privacy and health informatics. He holds several designations, including Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems- Canada, Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada, Certified Information Privacy Technologist, and Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems- Canada. Since joining the CMPA, Dr. Desai has served as a senior physician advisor and deputy privacy officer, and currently leads the CMPA’s quality and eHealth initiatives in the role of senior physician advisor, quality improvement and eHealth.
