Scientific Program Committee Annual Report 2000

Tom Miller

This year’s Scientific Program was very successful, and the symposium chaired by Dr. Meridith Marks on Rehabilitation in the Elderly, as well as the symposium on Whiplash were very well received. The Scientific Program Committee is changing. Dr. Karen Ethans will be taking over as Chair of the Scientific Program Committee, and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to welcome Karen. I am sure the entire membership will support Karen in improving our annual meeting.

The CAPM&R meeting in Halifax from June 13 to 17, 2001, will be our first venture with joint symposiums with the Canadian Neurological Society. The program will include symposiums on Neuropathic Pain, and Neurospasticity. We will also be including the Scientific Program as well as the Special Interest Groups.

The Special Interest Groups expanded and two new Special Interest Groups were added. Medical Legal, chaired by Dr. John Clifford, and Pediatrics, chaired by Dr. John Latter.

The Special Interest Groups have allowed focused areas of discussion that meet the needs of our membership, and I look forward to their expanding and improving our meeting.

As Outgoing Scientific Program Chair I would like to thank all of you who have helped over the last five years in improving and strengthening our CAPM&R meetings.
