From Our President
Hello, and welcome to the website of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Having been involved in the creation and revision of this site over the years, it gives me great pleasure to see it in its current format. Now more than ever, an organization’s website is its public face. I encourage all members and visitors to this site to provide us with feedback so that we can improve on it further.
I was honoured and privileged to have been elected President of the CAPM&R at our most recent Annual Scientific Meeting in Victoria in June, 2011. The past few months have been busy ones at the association as we plan for the next meeting in Toronto in June 2012, review our bylaws to ensure that we meet current legislative standards and deal with internal staffing changes and turnover. I want to welcome Roberta Sulpher, who has been working with us for several years, as the organization’s acting association coordinator. I also want to thank Rita Assabgui, our previous manager, for her many years of hard work and dedication, and wish her well with her new career direction.
As 2011 becomes 2012, we also turn our thoughts to end of year finances and budgeting. One of my most important goals during the two years of my Presidency will be to re-establish the financial viability of the organization, through solid fiscal management and with the assistance of our Treasurer, Dr. Michael Payne. On that note, I also wish to thank all of the members of our Executive Committee for their assistance and advice and for the many hours they contribute each year on a volunteer basis. For a small organization such as ours, this type of support is absolutely essential, and as always I encourage all of our members to find ways to get involved. It is your professional representative association, and will only be as effective as you make it.
I look forward to seeing you all in Toronto in June.
