Finance Committee Annual Report 2000

Tim Deutscher,
Chair, Finance Committee

The first meeting of the Associations finance committee was held June 8, 2000 at Mt. Tremblant.

Issues discussed included:
Membership to include but not restricted to:

  • Secretary-Treasurer

  • Past Secretary-Treasurer

  • Scientific Program Representative(s)

  • CPRDF Representative(s)

  • MOC Representative

  • Regional Representatives for Meeting Locale for Present and Future Years (?3)

  • Other Representatives of the Executive or General Membership as Interested

Purpose: To provide a forum to coordinate and share information and ideas allowing the ongoing development of a dynamic and successful fiscal structure for the Association.
That the emphasis be on communication and information sharing likely facilitated by Email correspondence or through a password protected web site. A primary goal of the Committee would be to facilitate ongoing dialogue to avoid duplication of efforts, reduce the risk of undercutting fundraising initiatives, and limit the chance of discouraging potential contributors by repetitive uncoordinated requests.

The importance of the development of successful fund raising strategies including those developed with the assistance of the Secretariat was discussed. It was hoped that ongoing dialogue would allow the Association to become more successful over future years and allow learning from those members who have demonstrated skill and accomplishment in their fundraising efforts to date.

The current fiscal year's severe deficit situation was discussed as was the need to consider dues increases in the future.

The importance of controlling and monitoring expenses was emphasized.

It was recommended that until the economic footing of the Association and of the Annual Meeting is stronger, the Association seek out appropriate meeting sites that facilitate cost containment most likely through the use of smaller venues.

It was recommended that further thought and effort be pursued regarding the development of a business plan for the Association.
