Communications Committee Report 2000

Chair: Jeff Blackmer
First Meeting - June 8, 2000, Mt. Tremblant

I have been asked by the executive of the CAPM&R to be the chairperson for a new committee within the Association B the Communications Committee. The executive felt, and I happen to agree, that there is room for improvement in the area of communication within our association. Committees can take ages to reach decisions because on occasion communication can break down. And that makes meaningful decision making a lot more difficult.

At present we use several forms of communication B email, our website, the annual meeting, faxes, phone conferences, and Canada Post. The goal of this committee, as I see it, will be to examine each of these forms of communication and see how we can make better use of it. For example, we might think about setting up listserves for the various committees to facilitate email communication, and also investigate the possibility of electronic distribution of the newsletter. In addition, we may try and produce some type of document to explain just what it is that we do, similar to the AAPM+R pamphlet.

We will be having our first meeting at the Annual Meeting in Mt. Tremblant and would love to hear from anyone with an interest in communications, the internet, new technologies, etcY At the present time the committee consists of two members, myself and Nora Cullen (the new editor of the CAPM+R newsletter), and we would certainly appreciate any help others can give us.

See you in Quebec.
